Calcium fluoride (CaF2) crystals have excellent light transmittance in the ultraviolet, visible and infrared bands, and are thus widely used in scientific and technological fields such as lasers, infrared optics, ultraviolet optics and high-energy detectors. Particularly, they have outstanding optical performance in the ultraviolet band, with high transmittance and very low fluorescence radiation, making them ideal materials for ultraviolet photodetectors, ultraviolet lasers and ultraviolet optical systems. Due to its low absorption and high damage threshold, it has become an ideal choice for excimer laser optics. The low refractive index of calcium fluoride also enables it to be used without applying an anti-reflection coating. The Knoopy hardness of calcium fluoride is 158.3, which is of high hardness and has strong resistance to mechanical and thermal shock.
